“Practical Project Management for Church Planting Endeavors”

CPS Process

The Formation Phase

In this phase the Planting Team extends the work that was completed in the Start Up Phase that laid the groundwork for engaging the community in which the congregation is being established. Building on that foundation, the activities of the Formation Phase commence the public ministry of the new congregation and then expand it to form a viable and sustainable faith community. The Formation Phase is likely to take place over a long period of time. Unlike the earlier phases which were focused on planning and preparation, the Formation Phase is focused on execution. However, this phase is not open-ended. The anticipated duration of this phase is an important element of the Mission Plan and is reflected in the baseline budget and schedule for the church planting project. The Formation Phase focuses on the actions identified in the Mission Plan that initiate and expand the public ministry of the new congregation. The desired outcome of this phase is that the congregation achieve self-sufficiency through viable and sustainable ministry.
